Pasifika Leaders Making Social Impact: A Night of Celebration at QUT
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) recently held a special awards celebration for the participants of the Pasifika Navigators (PN) Program. This initiative, designed to empower Pasifika-background students, promotes leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility through the creation of impactful community projects. Partnering with local schools, the PN Program encourages young Pasifika students to develop and lead initiatives addressing real-world issues within their communities.
The awards event recognised the hard work of these young leaders, who have spent months developing their projects under the guidance of QUT’s PN ambassadors. Their projects aimed to tackle a range of social issues, showcasing the students' dedication to making a positive impact. "We’re incredibly proud of these young leaders. Their commitment to their communities reflects their strength and resilience, and we’re honored to be part of their journey," said Tiana Hiippolite as Program Lead of Pasifika Navigators in QUT Student Inclsuion.
The evening was especially poignant, as several students from the program were announced as their schools’ new captains, demonstrating the program’s impact on their confidence and leadership skills. "It helped assist us in coming together as one and present our culture and inform teachers about our background," said one student at the celebration event. QUT’s Student Inclusion team continues to support initiatives that empower diverse students and create pathways to future success, enriching both the university and the communities it serves.
