On Friday 24 May QUT hosted over 1,900 Year 10 students from 14 schools as part of a Year 10 Student Inclusion outreach initiative.
As part of the experience, participants were sponsored to attend the Brisbane Careers & Employment (BC&E) Expo at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, with several partner schools also given a tour of QUT's Gardens Point campus, guided by QUT student ambassadors who could offer their insights and encouragement about study at university.
The BC&E Expo gives students, job seekers and career changers of all ages the opportunity to connect with organisations for guidance, clarity and opportunities related to career options. Students had the chance to explore the BC&E Expo, visiting the QUT stall and other exhibitors at the Expo.
QUT's Student Inclusion team worked with partner schools to coordinate the experience and enabled schools to bring their whole year levels by providing funding for transport and a campus lunch on the day; they also delivered preparatory in-school information sessions before the
Careers Expo to assist the Year 10 students with SET Pathway Planning. All students received a QUT bag and a quick guide to QUT.
The student feedback was overwhelmingly positive:
“I liked seeing all of the options I have for university.”
“I liked how supportive and kind the staff members are.”
“I feel more confident about my knowledge of TAFE and universities.”
“I liked being able to talk to the right people that know exactly how to get to where I want in the future.”
“I learned not to be afraid and to reach out and keep in touch with QUT.”
