QUT is committed to supporting our students and partner schools through Permission to Teach opportunities.  Only approved teachers may undertake the duties of a teacher in a state or non-state school in Queensland. Approved teachers include registered teachers and persons approved to teach under PTT. Holders of a PTT are not registered teachers. PTT approval is granted within strict parameters.

Preservice teachers wishing to apply for PTT must refer to the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) website. The PTT school is responsible for initiating this process.

Before accepting an employment contract, we strongly recommend you read the Principles for Permission to Teach.

More information can also be located on the fact sheet and PTT policies documents.

What do I need to do?

Any student wishing to undertake permission to teach or requiring a statement from QUT to submit with your QCT application must complete a Permission to Teach / Statement of Acknowledgement Application. Upon assessment of your application, if you meet the required criteria for PTT, the PEO will generate a Statement of Acknowledgement for you to submit to QCT. The PEO will otherwise be in contact if further information is required.

Completing placement at your PTT school

Current QCT and QUT Policy allows for two professional experience placements to occur in the PTT school. This includes any previous placements that took place before the PTT contract commenced.  Students who have more than two placements remaining will be required to take leave from their PTT school to undertake placement elsewhere.  There are no exceptions to this policy.

The PEO must be notified of the intention to undertake PTT, in writing or through submission of the PTT application, by the end of Week 1 Semester 1 or six weeks prior to placements beginning in Semester 2.  The Professional Experience Office reserves the right to deny placement requests in the PTT school.

Contact the PEO if you have further enquiries via email peo@qut.edu.au.
