What are the barriers to participation in STEM?
QUT is preparing a submission to the Australian Government's Diversity in STEM review, and we need your help.
The review aims to identify the cultural and structural changes needed in the STEM system, specifically:
- shape the Australian Government's vision to increase diversity, engagement and skills in STEM
- support pathways for diverse groups into STEM.
You can help by sharing your stories and insights which can help shape the future for STEM education.
Why do we need diversity in STEM?
As well as impacting people and their ability to secure employment, a lack of diversity limits the contribution STEM can make to society. Creative leaps and innovative approaches are more likely in organisations that embrace different:
- ways of thinking
- life experiences
- educational qualifications
- backgrounds
Without greater diversity, our STEM system will be less able to innovate and ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for Australians.
How to participate
To inform our submission, we would love to hear your stories, insights and views. The government are asking a range of questions to gather insights. We have narrowed these down to three quick questions for you to inform our submission.
Register to participate in an upcoming QUT focus group
In a group setting we will ask questions to gather your verbal responses on this topic.
