Sabrina Guse and EnviroMentoring
In a world where environmental education is more crucial than ever, Sabrina Guse is making waves with her innovative startup, EnviroMentoring. As both a passionate environmental advocate and a journalism student, Sabrina is taking matters into her own hands, inspiring the next generation in their quest to protect our planet.
EnviroMentoring offers mobile workshops that teach children about sustainability through exciting activities like building bug hotels, crafting terrariums, and creating wormeries. This approach teaches kids about the environment and instils a sense of responsibility.
Sabrina and her team have currently reached 1,000 children, aiming to reach 100,000 by 2030.
"So we're 1% there," she notes.
The impact of these workshops is evident and Sabrina's team had received fantastic feedback from educators and parents. As Nicole from Morningside State School OSHC shared, "The children loved the incursion and learnt so much! They were excited to show me their bug hotels and were buzzing with joy!"
During the uni holidays, Sabrina might have had a break from her studies but it didn't slow her down. With her dedicated team of EnviroMentors and QUT students— Jemma Wagner, Daisy Sheahan, and Amy Miller. Together, they successfully ran workshops at 29 Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Services.
As a 2023 recipient of the QUT Budding Entrepreneur Scholarship, Sabrina's dedication to education and environmental action shines through. She is currently pursuing a double degree, equipping herself with the skills necessary to become an effective science communicator.
"I'm studying a double degree in environmental science and journalism to equip myself with the knowledge and skills to become a science communicator so I can educate and inspire children and adults to take climate action."
With more workshops already booked for the next school holiday, there's no doubt that Sabrina's journey is just beginning, and we can't wait to see where it leads!
