In this blog post and webinar recording, we introduce you to a Sports Systems Statistician, an Energy Expert, and a Healthcare Mathematician. These individuals use mathematical principles and data skills to significantly impact their respective fields, sparking intrigue and engagement in their work.

Jack Powers, currently pursuing his PhD, has a strong background in mathematics and problem-solving. He has applied his mathematical skills across various industries, integrating algorithms and programming to solve industry-specific problems. His impact on healthcare, such as research to optimise public elective surgery waiting lists and developing a dynamic priority scoring system to ensure fair surgery access, has directly improved the lives of many. Jack is dedicated to teaching and is passionate about soccer officiating.

Emma Studerus has had an unconventional journey to data science, transitioning from an educational background in inter-networking studies to her current role as a senior forecasting system analyst at Energy Queensland. Throughout her career, Emma has demonstrated a passion for education, teaching data science fundamentals, and utilising skills gained from previous roles such as IT, customer service, and personal training. Her expertise is showcased in her application of machine learning in the energy sector, particularly in forecasting solar energy and analysing peak system demands.

Dr Paul Wu's journey from aerospace engineering to sports analytics showcases the powerful intersections of mathematics and passion. He focuses on developing statistical models in sports analytics to enhance training strategies and performance prediction. This highlights the constant application of core mathematical skills and the need for unique collaborative approaches.
