Biography
Andrea is a lecturer in Music and Music Education from the School of Creative Practice - Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice Faculty, Queensland University of Technology.Andrea is a versatile performer experienced in classical, music theatre and jazz genres. She has performed solo roles in works including Handel's Messiah, Handel’s Solomon, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Purcell’s Dido and Anaes, and Faure's Requiem. Andrea was a member of the acclaimed vocal jazz ensemble Scat!, with which she has made various recordings and toured nationally and internationally. Andrea was also a member of the vocal ensemble Swing Diva.
Andrea was the director of QUT’s previous choral ensembles, QUT Voices and the Oriana choir and has recently been appointed as the conductor of Musica Antiqua Collegi, a Brisbane community choir.
Andrea’s main areas of teaching and research are vocal pedagogy including solo performance, choral studies, and music education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is a past choral director at Education Queensland's MOST program.
Andrea has recently been awarded the degree of Doctor of Education from QUT. The thesis represents her study with music specialist and general primary preservice education students, and investigated developing singing competence, confidence, motivation and self-identity for teaching music in primary schools.
Andrea has performed internationally, nationally, and throughout Queensland; regularly conducts workshops and acts as a consultant / adjudicator in various eisteddfods, competitions and festivals around Queensland. Andrea has also continued a private singing, teaching and coaching practice. Andrea been an examiner with the AMEB, in the Contemporary Popular Music Program.
