Dr David Nutchey
Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice,
School of Teacher Education & Leadership
Biography
David began his career as a software engineer for a large multi-national semiconductor manufacturer after completing his Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering qualification. In that role, he not only developed the technical skills and understanding necessary to develop complex software, he also actively participated in the organisational activities associated with improving the company's software development capability. It was in these 'extra' activities that David developed a passion for learning and for creating environments in which others could learn.
David returned to university to complete his Graduate Diploma in Education, before undertaking his PhD study. In that study, his focus was on the modelling of knowledge and understanding in the domain of mathematics, with the view to the development of improved software-based learning environments that better account for the processes by which learners come to understand in this highly structured domain of knowledge.
David continues to develop theory and practice with regards to the modelling of knowledge and understanding in the domain of mathematics. This research interest is paralleled by his teaching activity that spans the disciplines of Science, Mathematics and engineering-based Design and Technology, with a particular interest in the development in integrated maths-science curriculum for the middle years of education.
