Biography
Dr Deborah Henderson taught History and Civics and Citizenship Education in Queensland secondary schools as a teacher/Head of Department/Administrator. Deborah teaches and researches secondary school social education curriculum studies and pre-service teacher education in relation to history and civics and citizenship education and supervises higher degree research students. Her publications include school curriculum resources and academic articles. Her teaching and research interests include include the relationship between history teachers’ practice and fostering young people’s historical thinking, civics and citizenship and values education, the internationalisation of education and outbound mobility experiences, policy and practice for studies of Asia, teacher professional learning and education, and teaching for effective learning. Her international experience includes:- Visiting Scholar, Centre for Governance and Citizenship, The Education University of Hong Kong (2016);
- Building Pre-Service teacher intercultural capability through Culture, Language and History Education in Malaysia, New Colombo Plan (NCP), (2016);
- Intercultural Competence for Student Teachers – Language, Culture and History Education in Malaysia, Study Overseas Short-term Mobility Program (STMP), (2015-2013);
- Strengthening Leadership and Teaching Skills (SLATES) (Philippines) program, Australia and The Philippines (2015);
- Strengthening Curriculum Development for Educators and Trainers of Future Teachers (CLADE)(Philippines) program, Australia and The Philippines (2014);
- Visiting Scholar, Centre for Governance and Citizenship, The Hong Kong Institute of Education (2012);
- QUT-BNU 4th Doctoral Program, Beijing (2009);

- Lectured and worked in the Islamic Republic of Iran with the Organisation for Educational Research and Planning (OERP), for the Ministry of Education, in their plans to revise the social studies curriculum (2005);
- Delivered teacher professional development papers and workshops in China, The Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam.
- In tandem with her research, Deborah is highly engaged in professional development programs in primary and secondary schools and in the production of quality teaching resources;
- She is a contributing author to 11 school texts which explore aspects of Asian history and culture.
