Biography
Elena Skoko is a PhD candidate and sessional academic at QUT. Her PhD research on maternity care in disasters aims to understand how current disaster interventions work in a real-world scenario, and what should be done to better meet the needs and expectations of childbearing women. Her project is funded by QUT and Natural Hazards Research Australia (NHRA).Expertise related to UN Sustainable Development Goals
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):

Critical discourse analysis, systematic literature review, obstetric violence
Experience
Elena's work as a pro bono international activist and citizen researcher contributed to public and academic discourse on obstetric violence and human rights in childbirth. She has been collaborating with the WHO, UN Human Rights Office, and numerous formal and informal international research and advocacy networks.
Being a multi-disciplinary artist influenced her approach to research, contributing to methodological innovations and community engagement.
