Dr Jacinta Watkins

Biography
Jacinta completed her PhD in plant sciences at the Australian National University in 2019 studying the mechanisms of carotenoid esterification in cereals. She then undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Calgary in Canada studying the biosynthesis of psychoactive compounds in medicinal plants. Jacinta returned to Australia in 2022 to join the banana biotechnology program led by Professor James Dale. Her current research focuses on improving banana fruit quality and resistance to Fusarium wilt tropical race 4 (TR4) using both GM and gene editing technologies.Personal details
