Biography
Jane Currie is Professor of Nursing, Queensland University of Technology. As a veteran, nurse practitioner and mixed methods researcher, Jane's research program focuses on access to healthcare for priority populations. Her work has attracted >$1.5MIL total research income. Jane has led 21 research projects, through productive collaborations with research organisations, government, British and Australian Army, industry, NGO's and the professions. An example of Jane's research with people experiencing homelessness includes her evaluation of the St Vincent's Hospital Sydney COVID-19 vaccination hub that led to development of a model of care blueprint document that was used by three health services in Brisbane and Melbourne to improve access to vaccination for those homeless.Jane's research is published across a range of journals (BMJ Open, JAN, IJNS) with a field weighted citation index in nursing of 2.48 (2018-2024, Scival). Jane's research on nurse-led services and access to care has been published in two World Health Organisation reports. Jane's doctoral research (2018) on nurse practitioners and access to care has informed the government's 2023 ground breaking budget promise to remove the 2010 nurse practitioner Collaborative Arrangement legislation, and the government's decision to increase the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) rebate for nurse practitioners by 30% - these are the first legislative and policy changes since 2010 when nurse practitioners were granted eligibility to provide subsidised services through the MBS. Jane is recipient of a Vice Chancellor's Award for Early Career Outstanding Contribution to Teaching (Univ. Sydney) and Learning and a National Australian Award for University Teaching Citation.
Jane practices clinically as a homeless health nurse practitioner.

Teaching
Dr Jane Currie has expertise in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate acute care units of study, using a variety of delivery modes, including on-line technology and clinical simulation for large and small student groups (up to 200). Jane has received the following awards in recognition of teaching excellence: 2018 Citation Australian Award for University Teaching 2017 Nominated for Australian Award for University Teaching 2016 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Early Career Teaching, University of Sydney 2015 Teaching Innovation Award, University of Sydney 2011 Australia Day Medallion for outstanding contribution to clinical education.
