Biography
After graduating with a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Queensland, Judith worked in both public and private hospitals and managed community pharmacies in metropolitan and rural Queensland and the UK, as well as owning two community pharmacies. In 2009 Judith commenced working for Medication Services Queensland, Queensland Health, as a Senior Project Officer in the area of New Models of Pharmacy Practice and was a recipient of a Queensland Health award for her research and work in this area. Judith is an emerging leader in environmental sustainability research in healthcare across 4 key areas: 1) Impacts of natural disasters/pandemics on community pharmacy operations, 2) Reducing the environmental impacts of pharmaceuticals, 3) Environmental & public health implications of inappropriate solid waste management in developing countries, and, 4) Healthcare decarbonisation. Judith is research lead of EARTH (Environmentally Active Research Transforming Healthcare) research group based at QUT and affiliated with the QUT Resilience Centre - Circular Economy theme. Recent projects include exploring waste options in a rural hospital to reduce landfill use and CO2e, reusing/recycling pharmaceuticals in a metropolitan tertiary hospital and a rural hospital, and exploring medication management models of care that reduce hospital stays and readmissions.Judith supervises HDR students in the following areas:
- Reducing the environmental impacts of healthcare waste including pharmaceutical waste
