Biography
Associate Professor Kathi Holt-Damant is a consultant architect and urban designer, originally from South Africa, working on problems relating to the urbanisation of culture and the impact on urban resources [land, water, infrastructure, mass transit, energy, resilience, food production and urban housing]. She has a particular focus on designing urban space systems that enhance the environment and build strong, healthy communities. She has delivered design research programs at the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, The University of Queensland and Columbia University [New York]. Dr Holt-Damant has been an invited critic at CU [NY], The New School Parsons School of Design [NY], Sci Arc [LA], University of Leuven [Belgium] and the University of Auckland [NZ]. She coordinates a student exchange programme funded jointly by the European Union and Australian Government to ‘Design Architectural and Urban Education for Climate Change’ involving six universities [ETSAB Barcelona, ENSA Toulouse, Politecnico Torino, QUT, UTS and RMIT]. She advises government and industry groups on a range of urban best practice initiatives. She has served on the QLD State Government’s Task Force for Transit-oriented development and currently sits on the Board of the Urban Design Alliance for Queensland [UDAL]. She is currently working with higher degree research students and coursework masters students.Areas of expertise
