Biography
Dr Gabrielle Lebbink is a plant and invasive species ecologist, working to understand how large-scale disturbances (fire, land use change, herbivores) impact plant communities. By doing so, Gabrielle aims to inform and develop land management strategies to improve conservation values across modified and disturbed landscapes.Research
Biotic influences such as herbivory and the invasion of exotic plant species, can lead to a cascade of impacts to plant and ecosystem functioning. Using an herbivore exclusion experiment in an Australian temperate grassy woodland, Gabrielle is currently working to untangle these relationships between invasive plants, herbivores and plant function. In previous work, Gabrielle researched the impact of invasive pasture species and land-use change within agricultural landscapes of Queensland. This research highlighted the importance of developing land-management strategies which consider and allow for both conservation and agricultural priorities. This is a research area Gabrielle is passionate about and would like to continue to pursue in her future career.
