Biography
Dr Morgan Batch is an early career researcher based at QUT. Her PhD thesis ‘The Loss of Small White Clouds: Dementia in Contemporary Performance’ (2019) surveyed a range of performances about dementia, considering their narratives, characterisation, language, and dramaturgy. Her book of the same name (Routledge, 2023) has developed these discussions further. Dr Batch has also claimed this territory with her papers in the Routledge Handbook of Disability Arts, Culture, and Media (2018) and in the reputed journal Performance Research. Her interest in the positioning of people with dementia in performance has led her to a broader interest in disability representation in theatre, as well as in mainstream, lay media and popular culture. Alongside Professor Bree Hadley, Morgan has researched the history of disability theatre in Australia in order to increase the visibility of disabled artists on the AusStage platform. She has also published with established researchers on the ethics of disability representation in the article 'The Entitled Ally: Authorship, Consultation, and the 'Right' to Stage Autistic People's Stories'. Dr Batch’s teaching has included undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Media and Communications at QUT. She has grown her reputation as an impactful writing and study skills advisor for both Master and Doctoral students in all areas of the creative industries.Personal details
