Background
Sally has a substantial record of attracting grant and consultancy income.
She is frequently asked to sit on higher education review and appointment panels, and to evaluate teaching excellence, grant outcomes, and curriculum renewal across the disciplines.
Before joining QUT in 1996, Sally Kift worked in the private and public sectors:
- as an employed solicitor with (then) MG Lyons and Co. (now Ebsworth and Ebsworth) - Brisbane.
- as associate to two Federal Court Judges (Fitzgerald and Spender JJ) - Brisbane
- in the areas of litigation, legal policy and aboriginal land claims for the Government of the Northern Territory.
While in the Northern Territory, Sally was active in the Northern Territory Law Society:
- acting as Secretary of the Law Society's Public Purposes Trust
- co-ordinating Law Week and the Society's Continuing Legal Education Program
- starting up and coordinating the Law Society's Inter-School Mock Trial Competition.
Sally has previously taught at:
- Northern Territory University - Darwin (1986-1993)
- Griffith University - Brisbane (1994-1995).
Publications
Sally Kift has published widely in Legal Education and in Criminal Law.
She has received many national and international invitations to deliver keynote addresses, workshops, and seminars on issues relating to:

- 2007: Sally led a Law Faculty Project Team which received an ALTC National Program Award (Carrick Institute) for QUT Law Faculty’s Assessment and Feedback practices.
- 2006: awarded one of three inaugural Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Senior Fellowships for a project entitled, Articulating a transition pedagogy to scaffold and enhance the first year learning experience in Australian higher education.
- 2003: one of eight national Teaching Award winners (winning the AAUT Economics, Business, Law and Related Studies category) who each received a $40,000 federal government grant. She was specifically recognised for her work in the development of the first year curriculum, support for sessional teaching staff, online teaching policy development, the improvement of first year student experience and the development of graduate capabilities.
- 2001: a national finalist (with Kingsford Legal Centre) at the Australian Awards for University Teaching, where she was runner-up in the Law and Legal Studies category.
- 2001: one of three recipients of QUT's Distinguished Teaching Award
- 1999: Law Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.
