Dr Sameera Jayan Senanayake

Biography
Dr Sameera is a health economist and a health service researcher at the School of Public Health and Social Work, Faculty of Health, QUT. He is also a Research Fellow in Health Economics at the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI) and Centre for Healthcare Transformation (CHT).Dr Sameera has a clinical and public health backgrounds before completing his PhD in health economics. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), a Master of Science (MSc) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) (by thesis) in public health from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. During his 10 years of experience as a public health expert working for the government of Sri Lanka, he was involved in evaluating public health interventions.
His PhD was in Health Economics and explored how health services can efficiently use deceased-donor kidneys to produce the best value for money. He produced seven papers from the PhD project and acquired skills in developing decision-analytic models and machine learning and statistical models.
His main research interests are in kidney disease, economic evaluations, decision making in health care, Markov modelling, discrete event simulation modelling and predictive modelling using in health services data and discrete choice experiments. He is also experienced and comfortable in using R, STATA, TreeAge Pro and Microsoft Excel.
To date, Dr Sameera has given 53 oral or poster presentations at conferences, authored 50 published papers and one book chapter.
