Biography
Dr. Sudipta Das Bhowmik is a committed mid-career Research Fellow and holds a Ph.D. (Plant Biotechnology) from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong India (2009). Dr. Sudipta has 11 years of research experience in the genetic modification of legume pulses and the conservation of rare and endangered species. He is also a recipient of the Advance Queensland Research Fellowship 2017 and is currently the investigator of several other Industry projects at QUT. Previously Dr. Sudipta worked on the Department of Biotechnology, India-funded project "High-throughput genetic transformation system in Seabuckthorn for functional genomic studies” at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India during 2010 - 2012.He has improvised the genetic transformation system in several pulses including chickpea, mung bean, grass pea, and cowpea. He is skilled in cutting-edge technology such as plant genetic modification, genome editing, plant tissue culture, cryopreservation, molecular techniques and published many high-impact research articles. During the tropical pulses of the Queensland Project, Dr. Sudipta has developed climate-smart GM chickpea varieties for drought and salinity tolerance which under field trial performed exceptionally well compared to non-GM varieties. Dr. Sudipta networked with elite research teams from the Indian Institute of Technology, CSIRO Australia, Elo Life Systems Australia, John Innes Centre UK, and provided research expertise and guidance in conducting complicated research. Dr. Sudipta is also experienced in giving guest lectures to undergrad students at QUT. He has completed the supervision of two Ph.D. students and one Master's student at QUT and currently supervising few more students
