Biography
After undertaking degrees in Journalism (BJour - UQ) and Biomedical Science (BBiomedSci - QUT), I completed my Master of Philosophy degree in biomedical sciences, with my thesis titled "Characterisation of the pouch microbiome and association with reproductive outcomes in the Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)". As part of this project, I sought to investigate how microbial communities in Koala pouches contribute to neonatal mortality in captive populations via cultivation-independent and -dependent methods including microbiome profiling and whole-genome sequencing. My key areas of expertise include :
- Metagenomic sequencing and microbial ecology
- The early life microbiome
- Bacterial genomics
- Molecular diagnostic design
- Bacterial and fungal cultivation and identification
- Marsupial reproductive biology
Research Assistant
As a microbial ecologist and molecular biologist, I am currently working as a research assistant for Prof. Kenneth Beagley and Dr. Alison Carey at QUT's Centre for Immunology and Infection Control (QUT-CIIC). Key topic areas include Koala PCR assay design, Chlamydia epidemiology in wild Koalas, vaccine production, and microbiome analysis in the context of human vaginal microbiota.Sessional Academic - School of Biomedical Sciences
I am a sessional academic for the School of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health. My subject areas include Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular biology and Human Physiology.Personal details
