Professor Vicky Browning

Biography
Professor Vicky Browning is qualified organisational psychologist and executive coach specialising in leadership and human resource development.Prior to her academic career Vicky held senior HR roles in industry and consulted in training and development. She completed her PhD at the University of Cape Town on the influence of HR practices on service behaviour in the retail and hospitality sector and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Director' Company Directors program.
Academic leadership and teaching
She is currently the Program Director for the QUT Pathways to Politics for Women Program. As the only program of its kind in Queensland, QUT’s Pathway to Politics for Women is a national, non‐partisan initiative that seeks to increase female participation at all levels of government by equipping women with the skills to succeed in being elected to public office, and to thrive as political leaders. In 2020 the program under her leadership received a Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence for Inclusion and diversity excellence. She is also the Chair of the University Equity Committee.
She was formally Director, Client Programs and Learning Innovation in the Graduate School of Business where she led the client award and professional development programs for QUTeX. In this role she was the Program Lead of the national Public Sector Management Program (PSMP) recognised nationally as a leading program offered by QUT on behalf of the APS. In 2019 the program under her leadership received a QUT Business School Recognition Award. Previous to this role she was the QUT MBA Director responsible for the redesign of the program and was nominated for a Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in 2014 for her leadership of the MBA programs.
She has extensive teaching experience in leadership, organizational behaviour and human resource management across executive education, undergraduate and post graduate programs at QUT, University of Otago and University of Cape Town.
Research
Her current research focuses on female political leadership exploring their style of leadership and the enablers and barriers for women to both enter politics and authentically practice their leadership. She has also researched in the area of human resource development, pedagogy and evaluation of learning impact leading a longitudinal research study examining the impact of executive education funded through a commercial grant provided by the Governments of Australia. She was Project Leader for a CRC CIEAM grant that focused on career and succession management for engineering and technical personnel. Her research into human resource management practices in service industries resulted in up to 15 publications and conference papers and in 2013 she received the Martin Opperman Memorial Award along with her co-authors Beverley Sparks and Kevin So from the Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing.

Experience
Vicky engages with industry leaders from both the public and private sector in consultancy and applied research projects with an emphasis on real world application. She assists organisations to develop leadership programs particularily for their women leaders and to manage the utilisation of learning within the workplace including measuring the impact of learning from programs.
