Biography
Professor Will Parsonage is Clinical Director at the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI) and Senior Staff Cardiologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and St Vincent's Private Hospital. AusHSI undertakes a broad range of activities to support research for the development of improved health services, and brings together health professionals who can oversee the translation of research ideas into practice. Will’s role at AusHSI provides a great counterpoint to his work as a practising cardiologist. As a clinical researcher, he is focused on seeing research have impact on a daily basis to improve the healthcare provided to cardiology patients, either through implementation or by influence on policy on a wider scale. As lead of the AusHSI Cardiac Health Services Program, Will undertakes research in the fields of heart attack detection in people with chest pain and heart disease in pregnancy, and is a chief investigator on a number of other projects across the field of cardiovascular disease. This work has had national and international impact, with findings implemented across Queensland and widely cited in clinical practice guidelines, including those from the European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology. Will has recently been invited to participate in a Lancet Commission on Ischaemic Heart Disease and is always looking for opportunities for new collaborations.
