Biography
Dr Osborne has 26 years’ experience in nursing education at the tertiary level. During this period she has gained a reputation for developing nursing curricula, course materials and teaching materials at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. She has also had 7 years’ experience as a Clinical Coordinator where she has developed close links with key stakeholders in the health care industry and has endeavoured to create models for clinical teaching that create learning environments whereby nursing students and those who supervise them may experience co learning.From 2007 until 2013 Dr Osborne has worked closely with Hanoi Medical University and its partners Hanoi medical College and Hai Duong Medical Technical University and University of medicine and Pharmacy and its partners, Khan Hoa Medical College, Cantho Medical College and Binh Dung Medical College to develop competency based curricula for both three and frou year Bachelor of nursing programs. These were ready for implementation in 2014. She has presented at a number of papers on nursing education at the Vietnamese Nurses Association Conferences and also contributed to curriculum frame for four year Bachelor nurse (Ministry of Education and Training). Dr Osborne has also worked closely with Professor Khan and his team in the Administration of Science, Training and Technology by contributing to discussion on nursing education, course accreditation for health professionals. She has had a major influence on changing curricula design in Viet Nam.
Research Activities
2014: Leadership styles of head nurses in 6 hospitals, Viet Nam.
2010: Examine experiences and outcomes of reconnect (refresher) participants, program coordinators and preceptors 2008-2010.
2009: Experiences of nurses working with CaLD nurses undergoing transition into their workplace.
2008: Experiences of CaLD nurses transitioning into a QHealth care setting.
2008: What is required for English Second Language Nursing Students to make a satisfactory transition to University Studies at QUT.
Project Highlights
2012: Eight (8) academic staff from Hai Duong Medical technical University (Viet Nam) to undertake a 3 week program to develop a model for Centre for interprofessional education and health promotion. Australian Leadership Awards- Fellowship Programme (AusAID)
2010: Four (4) chief nurses: a leadership program for introducing clinical education for students and new graduates from nursing programs into workplaces in Vietnam. Australian Leadership Awards- Fellowship Programme (AusAID)
2009: Promoting resilience and effective workplace functioning in international students enrolled in health courses. ALTC Grant.
2009: The development of a model of clinical education for nurses in a health care setting in Viet Nam. AusAID PSLP.
2008: “An exploration of how nurses who work with CALD nurses support their transition into practice settings.” QNC Early Researcher Grant.
2007: An exploration of the transition experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) nurses into a Queensland Health Setting. The Prince Charles Hospital.
