Before she joined QUT as a lecturer in Mandarin Chinese, she taught Chinese respectively at University of New England (Australia), Nankai University (China) and University of Queensland (Australia). She also has extensive experience in curriculum design, language unit development, course coordinating and lecturing for university degree students as well as for general community language classes. She has worked many times on judge panels at Chinese language competitions for university or school students such as Chinese Bridge and Shanghai Cup. In 2015 she received recognition as a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). She is also an IELTS Examiner (accredited by University of Cambridge) and a NAATI Level-3/professional-level translator (accredited by NAATI Australia) working both directions between Chinese and English. (IELTS: International English Language Testing System; NAATI: National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters). Her research interests are mainly on Chinese modal semantics, i.e. modal particles and modal adverbs, which constitute a difficult area for learners of Chinese as a foreign language.
