Zoe Hazelwood

Biography
Zoë is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology and Counselling, having worked for QUT since 2003. She is the Director of Clinical Psychology Services in the QUT Psychology Clinic and Course Coordinator for the Master of Clinical Psychology program. Zoë teaches into the interventions units and assists with the training of interns in the on-campus clinic. She supervises interns in their first year of clinical practice.Zoë completed her PhD in 2005 at Griffith University in the area of intimate relationships and the impact of attachment insecurity and maladaptive attributions on relationship satisfaction and couple communication. She is currently undertaking the requirements for international certification as an EFT couples therapist with ICEEFT in Canada and has completed Circle of Security training. Since completing her PhD, Zoë has continued her research into the factors that influence happy, healthy relationship coupling. Projects have included an IHBI ECR project exploring the role of preterm birth status on adult intimate relationship development. Zoë has also investigated the opposite end of the lifecycle by looking at the impact of dementia on intimate coupling. She is also interested in exploring how refugee couples, and other diverse groups of society, experience their relationships.
Zoë's research lab, CARE - Communication, Attachment and Relationship Experiences, provides more information about the research projects she and her students are currently conducting. She supervises students completing Honours, Masters and PhDs in projects that relate to the field of intimate relationships; Zoë has her QUT accreditation for supervision of PhD students.
In addition to research supervision, Zoë is also an AHPRA-approved clinical supervisor for the Psychology Board of Australia. She conducts a small private practice as a clinical psychologist and supervises clinical psychology registrars for their Area of Practice Endorsement. Zoë also conducts peer supervision sessions for psychologists who have already received their full registration.

Experience
Zoë respects the importance of ensuring her clinical skills remain up to date. She has held registration as psychologist for over 20 years and runs a small private practice, focussing on couples and using emotionally focussed couples therapy. While her core client base is couples, Zoë also sees some individuals in her practice.
Zoë was a foundational Committee member of the Queensland Community for Emotionally Focused Therapy, she is an active member of the International Association for Relationship Research, and held a long-term Committee position for the Australian Psychological Society's Psychology of Relationships Interest Group. She is currently a National Committee member for the APS College of Clinical Psychologists and the APS Psychology Education interest group.
