About the position

We are seeking a dynamic senior leader with strategic acumen, futures thinking and a passion for advancing healthcare to join us as our next Deputy Dean, Faculty of Health. As a key member of our Faculty Leadership Team, you will collaborate with the Executive Dean, Associate Deans, Heads of School, and the Director of Operations to drive the Faculty’s strategic vision and operational success.

In this pivotal role, you’ll provide strategic leadership across learning and teaching, research, health clinics, and international engagement. Your ability to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity will be instrumental in enhancing our students’ experiences and advancing high-impact research. You’ll also manage resources and finances, ensuring that our Faculty’s initiatives are not just ambitious but also sustainable and effective.

As Deputy Dean, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to shape the future of health education, representing the Executive Dean in key forums and stepping in as needed. You’ll lead and mentor a diverse team, collaborating closely with central services to support critical Faculty functions, from business development to Indigenous health.

Selection criteria

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  1. A doctoral qualification or equivalent in a relevant area with proven leadership and achievement at a senior level.
  2. Proven academic leadership and senior management experience, with demonstrated ability to implement learning and teaching initiatives and ensure high-quality program delivery including in student led Health Clinics and student support services.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage a multidisciplinary portfolio of research activity, and lead initiatives focused on enabling research performance and impact.
  4. Strong strategic planning and operational management skills, business acumen and a proven record of budget, resource and risk management at a senior level.
  5. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate, consult, negotiate and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the University.
  6. Demonstrated high-level analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to think creatively, introduce innovation and change and incorporate principles of diversity and inclusivity.
  7. Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external parties to deliver a program of student engagement activity and identify strategic and business development opportunities partnering with relevant industries, professions or institutions at the local and international levels.

Information for applicants

Term

The appointment will be offered on a fixed-term, full-time basis for five (5) years.

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Location

This position is primarily based at our Kelvin Grove campus, however may be required to work at the Gardens Point campus.

Additional requirements

This position has been identified by QUT as being engaged in child related employment. Appointment to this position is therefore subject to the provisions of the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000.

The appointee will be required to undergo a ‘Working with Children Check’ which will assess their suitability to work with children (defined as anyone under 18 years of age) based on their criminal history.
