Are you aware that embarking on a short course could be your gateway to obtaining a postgraduate certification?

Eliza Young started her recent study journey with QUT’s short courses in Enterprise Leadership and has now progressed into the Graduate Certificate in Business (Enterprise Leadership).

Young currently serves as the Health Safety Wellbeing Improvement Program Manager at Urban Utilities. In this role, she dedicates her time to ensuring the welfare and safety of her colleagues by employing strategic frameworks to enhance the organisation's work environment.

Young’s drive to broaden her leadership knowledge and bolster her team and organisation's support systems led to her enrolling in QUT’s Enterprise Leadership Program.

“The Enterprise Leadership Program provided me with invaluable tools that enhanced my strategic thinking and refined my communication techniques, skills that have empowered me to drive positive change and cultivate a culture of safety and wellbeing supported through collaboration at Urban Utilities,” she said.

The program's flexibility allowed Young to seamlessly integrate her studies into her professional commitments. Offering both online and face-to-face options, it enabled her to focus on modules most relevant to her role and engage with peers through real-life scenarios.

The Enterprise Leadership Program serves as an excellent pathway for participants aiming to advance their qualifications. Upon completing the two core modules—Leading Self and Others, and Actioning Strategic Innovation—along with any two elective modules, participants become eligible for the Graduate Certificate in Business (Enterprise Leadership).

This degree is tailored to enhance leadership capacity within specific organisational contexts. It equips individuals to think holistically, creatively, and strategically, thereby enabling leaders to inspire teams in complex environments.

Motivated by this opportunity for professional advancement, Young pursued the postgraduate degree to make a positive impact in her career trajectory.

“I saw enrolling in QUT's Graduate Certificate in Business (Enterprise Leadership) as a strategic investment in shaping my career trajectory, offering a direct route to ongoing growth and success,” she shared.

Dr. Catherine See, who instructs topics like Leading for High Performance and Leader as a Coach within the Enterprise Leadership Program, highlights the pathway's benefits for participants.

"By expanding their knowledge across various modules, participants not only enrich their leadership toolkit but also pave the way for attaining a postgraduate qualification in our Graduate Certificate in Business (Enterprise Leadership)," she explained.

“Participants will come away with tangible skills that they are able to implement into their roles within their respective organisations.

"This pathway provides flexibility, enabling students to select modules or topics they believe will best support their career advancement goals.”

As Young nears the completion of her Graduate Certificate in Business (Enterprise Leadership), she reflects on her journey thus far.

“I believe lifelong learning is essential for remaining agile and effective in today’s dynamic business landscape and believe that with this certification, I will be able to go even further in my career while making significant contributions to my organisation.”
