20th February 2023

It’s the start of the 2023 uni year and QUT is officially welcoming more than 13,000 new students.

Welcome Week began today and will include a range of orientation events to help students get to know the university’s campuses and facilities, settle into their courses, and get social through clubs and societies.

New students will also receive a free, limited edition QUT t-shirt.  This sought-after wardrobe addition is designed by a different QUT student each year, with this year’s tees (pictured above and below) created by Norwegian engineering exchange student Victoria Reinskou.

Music student Bria Harper (pictured at top, centre, with fellow QUT student ambassadors) is one of the many experienced QUT students helping new faces settle in this week.

She created a “QUT101” video for new students that covers all the essentials, including what to bring to class, how to get between campuses, ID cards, and tips for Welcome Week.

QUT Student Engagement spokesperson Dianne Nilsson, whose team is running Welcome Week, said the event was a great way for new students to find the information they needed – all in the one place.

“It’s about helping students settle in socially as well as academically,” she said.

“Welcome Week is a great way to fill in the gaps in what you already know about uni, and set yourself up for success on all levels.

“Our first-year students always love the atmosphere across Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove during the week – the food, the live music and the energy of our campuses.

“And all the resources we highlight during Welcome Week are here for the rest of their student journey.”
