The QUT Music class of 2024 have a dazzling final hurrah concert at Gardens Theatre on Friday night, with tickets to see some of Brisbane’s best emerging talent perform free but in red hot demand.
Associate Professor Kristina Kelman, from the QUT School of Creative Arts, Music, said following the phenomenal success of the 2023 production, the QUT Music showcase was back and bigger than ever.
“We will again present a two-hour main stage concert with all the bells and whistles. With the aid of our highly acclaimed eMedia Production Services, along with Dr Joe Carter and his fabulous film students, audiences can expect an audio and visual spectacular,” Professor Kelman said.
“This is a remarkable opportunity to see the exciting, eclectic work of students already embarking on their careers and who we will soon proudly claim as QUT music graduates.
“The night will feature a huge variety of high calibre, original music, from electronic to rock, folk to indie rock, post-punk to jazz, and shoegaze to cabaret rock. This year we are also including some orchestrated compositions in collaboration with QUT animation students.”
The evening kicks off at 6pm with first and second year QUT music students performing in the Gardens Theatre foyer who will return to entertain the crowd during interval and after the main show.
“Graduating students take to the stage from 7pm and I guarantee the audience will be blown away by the talent and creativity on show,” Professor Kelman said.
Professor Kelman said the line-up for the night reflected Brisbane’s vibrant, emerging music scene which also gives music students invaluable performance opportunities.
“At QUT, we are proud of our reputation for nurturing and supporting all kinds of musicians within the Bachelor of Creative Arts music program, helping students to realise their creative and musical identities and equip them with the music, production, and business skills they need to carve out sustainable careers.
“Initiatives such as the student-run record label, Vermilion Records, public performances, showcases, networking events, and a curriculum that features the principles of collaboration, creativity, originality, inter-disciplinarity, and industry-relevance allow QUT music students to learn, grow, experiment, and launch themselves into the world.”

The performers on the bill for the QUT Music Showcase include:
- Strayfold – an alternative rock band (Chelsea Costar, Zac Carr, Ethan Wood, Matt Norrish, Harper Kodicek and Jack Lestone) with a dynamic shoegaze sound. Their songs marry gracefully vulnerable lyrics with tenacious instrumentals, creating passionate music that is both intimate and lush.
- chelsea costar - with the intention of immortalising emotion through art, chelsea costar writes indie folk music for those with big souls.
- Amy Elise - Gold Coast based Amy captivates with her alternative indie rock, blending powerful melodies and punchy guitar riffs into a compelling mix of introspection and rebellion.
- Plain Jane - a musical act in which the connection between humanity and sound is explored through powerful vocals, strings and guitar to create a transcendent experience inspired by genres such as folk, indie pop, blues and country.
- Annabelle and Tess Finch - an emerging dynamic duo, merging their respective solo artistry into a unique, collaborative force with songs that seamlessly blend an array of pop, indie, folk, and jazz influences.
- April Darling - singer/songwriter Jemima Laag and producer Ethan Wood, creating a unique brand of indie pop/rock combining elements of art rock, shoegaze, folk, post-punk and much more.
- The Zon - producer and performer Eddy backed by a powerhouse band and fuelled by synth-pop beats inspired by the likes of Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, Grimes and Beyonce.
- NTfVR - the solo project of songwriter and producer Caleb Chambers. Inspired by the likes of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Anderson Paak, Jamiroquai and Daft Punk he infuses disco-pop, funk, R&B and soul into his original music.
- Hayley & Monnie - a dynamic music duo blending classical and theatre influences to create lush, soft pop soundscapes. With Hayley on vocals and Monnie on piano, these two embrace the storytelling power of music and are influenced by artists such as Renee Rapp and Joni Mitchell.
- Ambella and the Toms - inspired by a range of sources, including metalcore, classic rock and theatre, the five-piece band features two vocalists supported by dramatic piano, booming bass, screeching guitar, mesmerising synths and hard-hitting drums.
- Jarvis Floyd – a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist influenced by artists such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Radiohead, who weaves his love of 90s rock with a background in jazz and funk, employing soaring guitars with grounded bass and punchy drums.
