Colourful crayons and innovative digital technology have merged in an architecure and urban design exhibition aiming to transform South Bank's Grey Street into a cultural boulevard.
The Grey Street Xchange 2.0 exhibition, which ran over the weekend, helped promote intuitive Community Engagement in the South Bank parklands.
Director of the Urban Informatics lab Associate Professor Marcus Foth from QUT's Creative Industries Faculty said the collaboration between South Bank Corp and architecture and urban design students had created a multi-pronged approach to community engagement.
"Students have been working on different themes surrounding South Bank's interest in repositioning itself away from a theme park image and towards being an alternative CBD destination for Brisbane," Professor Foth said.
"Specifically, our group of students has been looking at Grey Street, and how we can use place making, urban design, and urban informatics approaches to improve its image."
The exhibition included a hybrid mobile phone and public screen application called Discussion in Space, which allowed passersby to contribute commentary via SMS or tweets onto an LCD screen, which was installed at the Grey Street Xchange shop at 164 Grey Street.
A mapping application developed by students which visualises pedestrian movements, colourful crayons for footpath drawings, QR codes, surveys, pico projector displays and photo blogs were also on exhibition.
