Biomechanics and Spine Research Group

The Biomechanics and Spine Research Group is a collaboration between Medical Engineering at QUT and the Spinal Orthopaedic Surgeons at the Queensland Children's Hospital. Our aim is to conduct quality research into paediatric spinal deformity and ensure patients receive the best management possible.

Centre for Biomedical Technologies

The QUT Centre for Biomedical Technologies aims to deliver better health in our lifetime, by improving how we treat complex medical cases stemming from injuries, infection and age-related issues.Our research and development focuses on better patient treatments and quality of life into the future using regenerative approaches, robotics and artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing to expand surgical possibilities and reduce complications.

Power Engineering Research

Our research team specialises in advancing energy efficiency through collaborations that bring together global expertise in energy delivery - local and national; integrated energy systems and modelling; power converters; and renewable energy technologies. In particular, our research expertise covers: distribution network analysis, distribution planning, high voltage, superconducting, power electronics and systems, modelling inverters in networks, wide area control and signal processing.

Sustainable Engineered Construction Materials

Welcome to the forefront of academic research in sustainable engineered construction materials (SECM). Our primary mission revolves around exploring and advancing groundbreaking materials poised to revolutionise various domains within civil engineering. As an integral platform for a distinguished research collective comprising 12 dedicated Investigators from the academic staff of QUT\\\'s Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Science and Public Health and QUT Business School. Explore a variety of topics related to sustainable construction materials while we highlight the specific interests of these skilled investigators. Each member contributes their expertise, coming together as a collective force to drive innovation towards the ultimate goal of pioneering sustainable solutions, with a particular focus on sustainable construction materials. Furthermore, by maintaining an exclusive emphasis on sustainable construction materials, we are better equipped to achieve our mission of pioneering environmentally-friendly solutions. As internationally renowned researchers affiliated with QUT, our team stands as a beacon of excellence in the field of sustainable engineered construction materials. Professor Sara Couperthwaite has received the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) David and Valerie Solomon Award for her research transforming mining waste into high purity alumina for safer lithium-ion batteries with industry partner Lava Blue.
