What is the purpose of this research?
The research aims to assess new cycling clothing designed to reduce injuries from falls or crashes. It first seeks to understand current clothing choices among cyclists, their riding experiences, and related injuries. Later steps will include laboratory tests of the garments, followed by rider tests of wearability.
Are you looking for people like me?
We are looking for:
- people aged 18 years and over
- across Australia
- who have ridden a bicycle in the past year.
What will you ask me to do?
You will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey that will take approximately 15 minutes.
Participation in the survey of this research project is entirely voluntary.
Examples of question in the survey include:
- What type of bike do you ride most often?
- How would you rate your cycling ability on roads and paths?
- Do you use any protective wear (other than a helmet and gloves) when riding on roads, bike lanes or paths?
Are there any risks for me in taking part?
It is not expected that participants will experience any more than ordinary daily discomfort. There is potential for some people to experience discomfort when answering questions about cycling-related injury. In the unlikely event that you experience discomfort, you can stop participating in the survey by closing the web browser without any comment or penalty.
Are there any benefits for me in taking part?
This research project may not directly benefit you. The outcomes of the research may, however, benefit riders in future by providing a better understanding of the role of clothing in protection against minor injury and informing industry decisions regarding future directions for cycling gear.
Will I be compensated for my time?
Survey respondents will be offered the chance to enter a prize draw for one of four $250 electronic gift vouchers. Winners will receive their vouchers via email and can redeem them on the Giftpay website, which offers a wide range of brands to choose from. The vouchers can also be used in-store.
Please note the opening date for entries is 1 November 2024, the closing date for entries is 1 February 2025.
