What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose of this research project is to gain a further understanding into the individual differences which impact on mental health and social media usage.
Are you looking for people like me?
We are approaching you because you are an adult over 18, there are no restrictions on age or gender or other demographic variables.
What will you ask me to do?
Participation will involve completing a 236-item questionnaire with Likert scale answers (e.g. strongly agree – strongly disagree) that will take approximately 70 minutes of your time.
Are there any risks for me in taking part?
There are minimal risks associated with your participation in this research project. One possible risk associated with participation are questions which may pose discomfort or stress relating to your experiences of social media.
Another potential risk is that the items included in the scales may require you to reflect on your own behaviour.
An additional risk is that participants may feel inconvenienced by the time taken to complete the survey.
Are there any benefits for me in taking part?
No. The outcomes of the research, however, may benefit a greater insight into individual differences and online behaviours, allowing a contribution for harm minimisation.
Will I be compensated for my time?
To recognise your contribution, should you choose to participate, the research team is offering you 1 in 6 chances to win a $100 Eftpos gift card.
