Overview
Interested in 3D Bioprinting? Care about improving our understanding of cancer pathogenesis? Then this opportunity is for you!
The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and industry partner Gelomics Pty Ltd are seeking competitive candidates to apply for a PhD scholarship (AU $34,013 per annum) in 3D Bioprinting & Cancer Research.
Research activities
The Project: High-Throughput 3D Bioprinting of the Tumour Microenvironment
This project aims to develop methods and bioinks to facilitate the high-throughput 3D printing of tumour microenvironments with defined mechanical and biochemical properties incorporating cancer, stromal, and endothelial cells, as well as tissue- and pathology-specific extracellular matrix components. The system will be applied to systematically study the influence of variations in the biochemical, biological, and mechanical properties on cancer-associated pathological processes using Design of Experiment (DoE) principles.
Outcomes
The Opportunity:
The ARC Training Centre for Cell & Tissue Engineering Technologies (ARC CTET) is a new Research Centre led by Monash University and QUT in collaboration with 22 industry partner organisations. The successful applicant will work closely with industry partner Gelomics, a Brisbane-based Biotechnology company providing advanced solutions for 3D Cell Culture, to develop industry-ready Biomaterial and 3D Bioprinting technologies.
Skills and experience
The Candidate:
Applicants must be domestic (Australian citizen or current resident with appropriate visa) and hold at least one of the following:
· Australian Bachelor 1st or 2nd Class Division A Honours Degree or comparable overseas qualification
· Australian Masters by Research or comparable or comparable overseas qualification
· Australian Masters by Coursework or Professional Doctorate or comparable overseas qualification with > 25% research component
Previous research and laboratory experience in related fields is required. Previous experience in polymer chemistry, biomaterial development, 3D bioprinting, rheology, mechanical testing, cell culture, and bioassays is desired.
