Overview
The Australian Government has released Australia’s first National Electric Vehicle Strategy to increase the uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia (Australian Government, 2023), which has the potential to reduce carbon emissions substantially, given that electricity is produced from renewable energy sources (Degirmenci & Breitner, 2017).
Despite environmental benefits like reduced carbon emissions, EV owners become increasingly concerned about their privacy due to enhanced EV connectivity and increased personal data sharing through EV digital services. Edge computing, where data is processed at the edge of the network where most data is generated (Shi et al., 2016), provides various benefits such as improved privacy and security (reducing the need to transmit sensitive information over networks by processing data locally), bandwidth and reliability, low latency and real-time communication, and mobility.
In this project, we analyse the adoption of edge computing by EV owners to alleviate privacy concerns for personal data sharing through EV digital services, and we further investigate the dynamic behaviour of energy systems changed through integrated edge computing in EVs.
