Overview
Mining represents one of the largest industry sectors in Australia. It is central to creating 1 million direct or indirect jobs and generates significant wealth to Australia. However, the mining industry produces a substantial amount of waste material which ideally needs to be recycled.

- characterization of mining waste
- low-cost activation of mining wastes
- purification of wastes
- synthesis of value-added materials such as zeolites
- process design for material manufacture
- demonstration at scale.

- minimization of the environmental impact of mining waste
- stimulation of jobs in rural areas
