Overview
https://research.qut.edu.au/cpc/https://research.qut.edu.au/cpc/Nutrition-impacting symptoms contribute to decreased quality of life and food intake, and subsequent malnutrition and decreased willingness to commence or complete cancer treatment, which all compromise survival. Evidence exists to support the role of dietary counselling for malnutrition during cancer treatment; however, less is known about the role of dietary counselling for nutrition-impacting symptoms that lead to the development of malnutrition.
This systematic review project will synthesise available evidence on the effect of dietary counselling interventions on nutrition-impacting symptoms (e.g., fatigue, nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, taste and smell alterations) during cancer treatment.
Research activities
You will be involved in planning and conducting a systematic literature review, including protocol development, literature searching and screening, data extraction and analysis, and contribution as an author to a manuscript for publication in a journal. The project can be conducted on-site with the team in the Cancer and Palliative Care Outcomes Centre at QUT, or remotely.
Outcomes
This project will provide a current overview of existing evidence to guide future practice and research to improve the prevention and management of nutrition-impacting symptoms with dietary counselling.
You will gain the skills to conduct a systematic review, which is a valuable research method that can be applied to any field of research.
Skills and experience
The project would suit students with an interest in learning systematic review methodology, and/or an interest in nutrition and cancer symptom management.
Scholarships
You may be eligible to apply for a research scholarship.
