Overview

This research project aims to investigate the experiences and needs of women involved in esports and gaming communities at QUT. Through observations and interviews with participants, the study aims to gain insights into improving women's sense of belongingness in these communities. The ultimate goal is to provide recommendations for university esports administration and contribute to academic publications on gender inclusivity in esports.

Research activities

Observations

You will have the opportunity to observe women's participation in esports and gaming communities at QUT. This could involve attending esports events, gaming sessions, or online platforms to gain a comprehensive understanding of the environment.

Interviews

You will conduct interviews with women who are part of esports teams or gaming communities at QUT. These interviews will focus on their experiences, challenges, and needs, aiming to capture a diverse range of perspectives.

Understanding needs and experiences

Through interactions and conversations with the participants, you will explore their specific needs, challenges, and experiences as members of esports teams or gaming communities. This will require empathy, active listening, and the ability to ask relevant and insightful questions.

Outcomes

Set of recommendations

Based on the data collected and analysis of participants' experiences, you will contribute to formulating a set of actionable recommendations aimed at improving women's belongingness and inclusivity in esports and gaming communities at QUT. These recommendations may be directed towards the university's esports administration.

Academic publications

The findings from this research will be used to produce academic publications that contribute to the existing body of knowledge on gender inclusivity in esports and videogaming communities. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the writing and analysis of these publications.

Skills and experience

Excellent communication skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for conducting interviews, interacting with participants, and documenting research findings. You should be able to express ideas clearly and communicate empathetically.

Interest in videogaming and gaming communities

A genuine interest in videogaming and gaming communities is crucial for understanding the context and the experiences of the participants. Familiarity with different gaming platforms and esports events will be advantageous.

Experience or interest in conducting interview studies

Prior experience or a strong interest in conducting interview-based studies is preferred. This includes skills in designing interview protocols, conducting interviews, and analyzing qualitative data.
