Overview

Artificial intelligence (AI) is driving transformation across all areas of society today. An umbrella term encompassing a range of technologies both sophisticated and simple that are used to make predictions, inferences, recommendations, or decisions with data. AI is used in many products and services that people use, interact with, or are impacted by every day. It already in place of local government and assisting government officials in providing services effectively and conduct their activities more efficiently to the public. The range of possibilities that AI appears to offer across the local government is immense. Nonetheless, the potential risk of AI, as a technology, raised the question about the AI policy and regulatory frameworks of local government.

Research activities

This project will investigate the local government policy landscape of AI in the global context. As a part of the research project, you will be involved in the following activities:

  • conducting desktop research on what are the cities published their smart city policy and digital strategies?
  • investigating how AI has been incorporated in the city function. i.e., what type of AI technologies and in which sector they have utilised?
  • analysis on how AI policies are formulated among the smart city policies and digital strategies?

Outcomes

  • gain insights into local government AI policies
  • report and poster formulation and presentation
  • publication of research findings in scholarly, professional, and online sources

Skills and experience

  • background in urban and regional planning, urban studies, local government studies, public policy, urban policy, and information and technology management, or other related disciplines
  • passion for this topic and enthusiastic working ability
  • strong interest in developing own academic and professional skills
  • strong writing and analytical skill
