Overview
Many industries generate copious amounts of waste products.
Of particular interest are those wastes generated by the mining sector as typically a large fraction of the ore bodies are dumped or the agricultural sector.
Potential solutions we are investigating include:
- converting aluminosilicate waste to zeolites
- transforming inorganic waste to catalyst materials
- creation of materials for water and wastewater treatment
- making activated carbon
- renewable fuels,
Research activities
Students will develop new technologies for waste conversion and importantly evaluate not only the performance but also the economics of any new process.
Emphasis will be placed working with industry collaborators.
Outcomes
The desired outcome is to take fundamental knowledge and apply this to material processing at scale.
