Overview

This project will investigate gender differences in retirement projections, analysing how financial advice impacts these projections. Students will use statistical modelling to compare retirement projections for men and women with and without the benefit of financial advice. The research aims to provide insights into the effectiveness of financial advisory services in addressing gender disparities in retirement planning.

Research engagement

  • Literature Review: Conduct a literature review on gender differences in retirement planning and the role of financial advice.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse and model retirement projections using an existing dataset
  • Impact Assessment: Evaluate the impact of financial advice on retirement outcomes for men and women.
  • Recommendations: Develop recommendations for improving retirement planning for women through financial advice.

Research activities

  • Literature Review: Expand and update the literature review on gender differences in retirement planning.
  • Statistical Modeling: Use statistical techniques to model retirement projections for men and women with and without financial advice.
  • Report and Presentation: Prepare a final report and presentation summarizing findings and offering recommendations

Students will mainly be working with the principal supervisor.

Outcomes

  • To model and compare retirement projections for men and women.
  • To assess the impact of financial advice on improving retirement outcomes for women.
  • To develop recommendations for enhancing financial advisory services to address gender disparities in retirement planning.

Skills and experience

The ability to perform a literature scan and foundational knowledge of statistics is required. Knowledge of R for statistical analysis would be beneficial. The project scope could be adjusted to the student's interests and background, such as in personal finance, behavioural psychology, or statistical data science.
