Overview
This research topic is an area of structural engineering within the general theme of "resilient built environment". While there has been related funded projects in the past, there is none currently. The project is to be done within the School of CEE.
Research engagement
Research activities include 1) literature review of artificial intelligence (AI) model development and application to structural engineering; 2) literature review in the area of "rapid visual screening" of existing building; 3) Literature review of simplified (index-based) seismic vulnerability assessment. The student is expected to synthesize information from these 3 reviews and draws relationships specifically between Areas 1 and 3.
Research activities
The student will be conducting literature review, with many references/text provided by the supervisor.
Outcomes
The reviews will inform the development of a methodology by QUT researchers that bridges the gap between traditional index-based assessment methods and application of modern AI-based methods. Such methodologies may be used in preparing applications for external research funding
Skills and experience
Familiarity with reinforced concrete and/or masonry structures is essential; Interest in Artificial Intelligence applications to structural engineering is essential;
