Overview

This project is part of the recently established global interdisciplinary network “Building with Blue Biomass” that enables collaborations between leading experts from Academia and Industry in Australia, Denmark, and the UK. The network connects Australian Researchers and designers from QUT and UQ to Danish partners: Royal Danish Academy (RDA), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), 3XN/GXN; UK Partners: University College of London (UCL), and international partner Arup. The network shares local insights and solutions between countries rich in regenerative blue biomass resources and identifies future pathways and research to reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry by examining how architectural elements and products can be made from marine based materials.

Building on the recent discussions within Building with Blue Biomass Network, this project aims to identify existing research in Australia; conceptualize, design, and produce resource-efficient architectural prototypes for living spaces using locally sourced blue biomass. The project brings together expertise and research in architecture, biomaterial synthesis and characterization, bio-integrated design, bio-economy and advanced manufacture. The project will achieve this by research, experimentation and prototyping activities.
