Overview
This project is related to industry projects for exotic mushroom production and bioactive extracts from avocado and chillie tissues.
Research engagement
Potentially grow oyster mushrooms, and then work on various combinations of water and ethanol extracts to combine bioactive compounds such as B-glucans and terpenoids (mushrooms), phenolics and omega-9-fatty acids (avocado) and antioxidants (capsaicin form chillies) to generate new products.
Research activities
solid state fermentation
Outcomes
Student will develop lab skills while screening combinations of biological substrates to create viable new food or health supplement products
Skills and experience
Ideally a combination background of biological sciences and chemistry. Process engineers may be considered.
Start date

5 February, 2025Location
Gardens Point. Q620 or M5 laboratories
Additional information
Will likely work in combination with HDR students
