Overview

Smart use of rich data sets and state-of-the-art models in a central framework provides opportunities to address problems that were previously out of reach. This is particularly true in managing and responding to flood scenarios where an integrated platform can gather forecasted and measured weather and streamflow data and use those data in foresting systems, enabling an integrated visualisation platform for data sharing and real-time decision making.

Water engineering research team is developing analytical and visualisation frameworks that can support an integrated flood foresting platform. This project aims to create a software and hardware environment that can integrate data sources, sensor systems and models so that it can be used as a visualisation and decision support system to test and promote water engineering research at QUT.

Project deliverables

  • Access to real-time time and forecasted weather and streamflow data.
  • Platform to house geospatial data sets such as soil, land cover and elevation.
  • Web-based decision support system and visualisation portal.

Research engagement

This project is primarily about Python programming. It will include developing a program to develop data structures to visualise data sources from external partners, extract date and visualise from in-house date assets and developing a program to simulate existing flood models.

Research activities

The activities will include developing a program to develop data structures to visualise data sources from external partners, extract date and visualise from in-house date assets and developing a program to simulate existing flood models.

Outcomes

  • Access to real-time time and forecasted weather and streamflow data.
  • Develop a platform to house geospatial data sets such as soil, land cover and elevation.
  • Develop a web-based decision support system and visualisation portal.
