Overview

Videos of sport activities are widely available at large scales. AI and its sub-fields, especially computer vision and machine learning, have a great potential to analyse, understand and extract useful information from these videos.

This project aims at using AI and its subfields in computer vision and machine learning to develop techniques for analysing sport videos to extract intelligence for players and coaches.

Research engagement

This project will develop new methods to analyse sport videos. This will involve the development of new computer vision and machine learning methods, and evaluating these on public datasets.

Research activities

Research activities include:

  • research and development of novel computer vision and machine learning methods
  • experimental design
  • writing up, publishing and presenting research outcomes.

This project will build on an existing body of research conducted by the supervisory team.

Outcomes

The aim of the project is to develop:

  • new machine learning
  • computer vision
  • AI models, to solve the research gaps in the related fields.

Skills and experience

You must have:

  • strong math background
  • programming experience (preferably Python).

Some machine learning and/or computer vision experience is desired.
