Overview

Mass events such as concerts and sporting gatherings provide numerous social, economic, and cultural benefits to communities. While such events bring people together for entertainment and community engagement, they also present unique challenges related to security and safety. The purpose of this project is to explore the current state of knowledge about victimisation, safety and fear of crime at mass events. This project seeks to bring together knowledge from criminology, psychology, tourism and sports management. Findings of the scoping review will be used to develop future interdisciplinary research projects to address gaps in the literature.

Research engagement

The prospective students will assist the research team with a scoping review.

Research activities

Prospective students will collaborate with the research team to:

  • Develop a scoping review protocol and search terms
  • Screen and review relevant literature on the topic using scoping/systematic review software
  • Produce a scoping review for publication consideration in an interdisciplinary journal (with co-authorship)

Outcomes

The project aims to map the current research on victimisation, fear of crime, and safety at mass events. A scoping review will provide the foundation for future research projects to be developed to address key gaps in the literature.

Skills and experience

Prospective candidates should have a:

  • Keen interest in pursuing research as a future career;
  • Possess basic research skills (e.g., using library databases to find sources, understanding of boolean operators and search strategies); and
  • Data analysis skills (e.g., conducting descriptive/inferential analyses) - desirable criteria (not required)

Start date
