Travelling to another country is an exciting adventure but can feel overwhelming. We’re here to help before you fly, when you land and as you prepare to start your study at QUT.
Preparing to leave
We know there’s a lot to organise when you’re preparing to study overseas. We recommend checking key dates and logging into your student portal to start with. Then, check off the following items to make sure your enrolment and arrival go smoothly.
Accessing your student portal
To log in to your HiQ student portal, use the QUT username provided in your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from QUT.
You may need to reset your password to be able to login. Go to QUT Access and create a unique QUT password. You will need your QUT access username, which is the letter ‘n’ followed by your QUT student ID number. For example, n12345678.
Your password recovery link will be sent to the email address used in your application. You can then login to your student portal, where you’ll find more information about:
- activating health cover (OSHC)
- enrolling in units and understanding fees
- registering for orientation events
- working while you study
- bringing your family to Australia.
You’ll also have access to a recorded pre-departure briefing that will talk you through how to prepare and what to expect.
On this page, you’ll see some links with a lock symbol. This means the information is within your student portal and you’ll need to login to access the page.
Understanding key dates
Check key dates for unit enrolment, class registration, information sessions to attend and fee due dates.
Applying for a visa
When you receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), you can apply for a visa through the Department of Home Affairs.
Finding accommodation
Find your home away from home with one of many accommodation options available close to both QUT campuses.
Overseas Student Health Cover
You'll need to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your studies in Australia.

Bringing your family
If your family is moving to Australia with you, they’ll need to apply for the right visa. If you need help, contact Welfare Services.
