If you’re an international student and you’re studying the Australian Year 12 curriculum, either in Australia or overseas, you’ll need to follow these steps to apply for your QUT course.
How to apply
Look for a course you want to study. You can apply for up to six courses at once on your QTAC application.
Submit your application through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
Applying with an agent
If you are applying through a QUT representative (agent), you must also complete and submit an agent appointment form (DOCX file, 48.9 KB) and attach your QTAC Confirmation of Lodgement.

When do I need to apply?
If you have completed or are due to complete Year 12 at an Australian high school this year and are applying to start at QUT in Semester 1 next year, you should apply through QTAC.
Please check the QTAC website for key application dates.
If you miss the QTAC deadline for applications, or if you are an Australian high school graduate from a previous year, you should apply directly to QUT via the QUT Application Portal.
We will email a conditional offer for your highest nominated QUT course directly to you or your agent from as early as August. Offers will be conditional on course academic and English language requirements, as well as any additional requirements your course might have.
Hold on to your offer letter until you receive your final Year 12 results, as you will require the letter to accept your QUT offer.
If you want an offer for a different course to the one you received, contact QUT directly rather than changing your preference in QTAC. You can respond to the email you received with your offer letter and let us know your request. We will reassess your application.
When your final Year 12 results are released, you can check that you have met all the requirements for your course.
Academic requirements
Academic entry is based on:
- your ATAR, selection rank, International Baccalaureate (IB) score or interstate results
- a portfolio, interview or audition (if your course requires one).
Once you have received your Year 12 results, check the acceptance threshold for your course and check that you meet the requirements:
2024 ATAR acceptance thresholds
What happens if I don’t meet the academic entry requirements?
We will send you a revised offer for applicable pathway program through QUT College to help you transition into your chosen course.
If you want an offer for a different course to the one you received, you can respond to the email you received with your offer letter and let us know your request. We will reassess your application.
English language requirements
You must meet the minimum English language entry requirements for your course. Check your course details to see what English language standard you need.
What happens if I don't meet the English requirements?
If you don’t meet the English language requirement, you can:
- take the IELTS test or other approved English language tests to prove your English ability
- apply for an English pathway program through QUT College to help you transition into your chosen course. To request an English pathway offer, respond to the email you received with your offer letter and let us know your request.
Am I eligible for the Year 12 Subject Scheme?
If you've successfully completed certain subjects at school, or university-level units, we'll make an adjustment to your selection rank (or ATAR equivalent).
Find out more about adjustment schemes to see what you're eligible for.
I didn't receive an ATAR score - am I eligible for QUT courses?
If you did not receive an ATAR score or selection rank, you may still be eligible for one of our admission pathways.
How can I change to a different course or request a pathway/packaged offer?
To change courses or request a pathway offer, respond to the email you received with your offer and let us know your request. We will reassess your application.
I need more help
If you're not sure about your options or you need more help, contact our international high school enquiries team at brisinternational@qut.edu.au, or contact your agent.
Accepting your offer
To accept your unconditional offer, did you apply through an agent or directly to QUT?
Through an agent or representative
If you applied through an agent or QUT representative, they will guide you through the steps to accept your unconditional offer and pay your fees.
Through QTAC or directly to QUT
- Login to QUT Application Portal
- Go to: Respond to your offer and select Accept
- Complete the acceptance of offer form and details.
You will then be taken to a payment portal to finalise your payment.
We will be notified when you have finalised your acceptance, and we will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), if applicable. If you require a student visa, you can then use your COE to apply for one. You will not be able to apply for your Australian student visa until you have received your CoE.
When do I need to accept my offer by?
Check your offer letter for the start date of your course. The acceptance closing date is one week prior to the start date of your course. We recommend you accept early to ensure you have enough time to attend orientation week.
Changing your preferences
If you want to change your preferences and be considered for a different course, respond to the email you received with your offer rather than changing your preference in QTAC. If you change your preferences in QTAC, we won't receive this information.
Check my course options
Course thresholds can change from year to year depending on popularity, but this is a good guide as to the courses you may be able to gain entry to.
The thresholds for the courses displayed are the lowest ATAR/selection ranks (including adjustments) to which an offer was made in the last January offer round. Check the course information for all entry requirements.
