Free, bookings essential.Join renowned expert and national leader in trauma-aware education, Associate Professor Judith Howard for this introductory session explaining a trauma-aware approach to education.
Dr Howard has an extensive career history with schooling in Queensland and she promotes a neuroscience-informed approach - to which she believes every educator in every education site needs access. Dr Howard explains that children and young people who have lived through traumatic life circumstances, including maltreatment, may present with challenging behaviours and need help to feel safe, to manage their relationships, and to regulate their emotions at school.
As a school leader, teacher, or someone working in the area of student support, it is vital that you have an awareness of how complex trauma impacts on the behaviours, learning and wellbeing of young students and how we can respond in education settings.
During this session, Dr Howard will also share resources developed by QUT that are available to all Australian educators, that can support your (and your school’s) ongoing learning and leadership in this area.
Led by Dr Howard, QUT has offered trauma-aware education option units to pre-service teacher education students since 2017. We are pleased to announce that these units are now mandatory inclusions within the B.Ed and M.Teach courses: an exciting development to prepare all future graduates, who will be teaching in schools and early childhood education.
